Israel attacks Gaza but still no condemnation.

There is no internationally agreed upon definition of terrorism. I suppose the ambiguity gives politicians a carte blanche to label anyone as the enemy. But here are a couple of definitions of terrorism:

Terrorism: the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion.

Terrorism: the calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature

The Israeli attacks in Gaza on Saturday 27th December were calculated and violent; they targeted unarmed civilians and were political in nature. The Israelis are hoping to use this latest operation in Gaza as a means of coercion against Hamas. By this rationale, it’s pretty safe to say that the Israeli strikes on Gaza which have killed 225 people so far and injured 700 is nothing short of a terrorist attack.

The Israelis are unhappy with the Hamas leadership even though the people of Gaza elected them into power. They say it’s to retaliate against Hamas rocket attacks, but there’s no mention of the fact that Hamas fires rockets into Israel as a means of retaliation against an illegal occupation and brutal oppression of its people.

Terrorism has been a hot topic for a while and every Tom, Dick and Harry has been coming out with condemnation of it. It’s amazing how muted people can be when it comes to terrorist aggression against the Muslim world.

Benjamin Netanyahu said in his book International Terrorism:

‘I cannot agree that a terrorist can ever be an idealist, or that the objects sought can ever justify terrorism. The impact of terrorism, not merely on individual nations, but on humanity as a whole, is intrinsically evil, necessarily evil and wholly evil.’

Mr. Netanyahu: Will you condemn your current government for its actions in Gaza?

Barak Obama said in his speech on 20th Nov 2006:

‘In an interconnected world, the defeat of international terrorism – and most importantly, the prevention of these terrorist organizations from obtaining weapons of mass destruction — will require the cooperation of many nations. We must always reserve the right to strike unilaterally at terrorists wherever they may exist.’

Mr. Obama: Israel obtains its weapons from your government. Will you vow to stop this?
Alan Keyes said in his speech in April 2002:

‘Every leader, and every regime, and every movement, and every organization that steps across the line to terrorism must be banished from the discourse of civilized human life.’
Mr Keyes: the Israeli government presented you with an award for your integrity in journalism. Will you now report from the Gazan perspective?
Rudy Giuliani said:
‘We can’t accommodate terrorism. When someone uses the slaughter of innocent people to advance a so-called political cause, at that point the political cause becomes immoral and unjust and they should be eliminated from any serious discussion, any serious debate.’
Mr. Giuliani: Will you now lobby your government from eliminating the state of Israel from any serious discussion or debate?

Will the readers of this post condemn the attacks and lobby widespread support for recognising Israel as a terrorist state?

  1. Sa. says :

It was December 27, not November 7..

The occupation ended in 2005, what in the world are you going on about?

And that death toll is at least 90% Hamas members, not innocent civilians.

Honestly, how can anyone take this rubbish seriously when you can’t even recall what month it is?

    • honestdebate says :

      Sa,

Thanks for highlighting the type error on the date, albeit a sarcy one.

You say the occupation ended in 2005 – it never ended. Israel is an occupying state, it occupied palestinian land in 1947 and still occupies it.

Israel’s been violating laws since it’s establishment. Each time it initiates a new venture or violation of UN resolutions or international law, the world seems to forget the past offences and focues on the latest ones. You may be forgetting that the Balfour Declaration, planned and orchestrated by the zionists was back in 1917 when neither Britain nor Wiezman had any jurisdiction over Palestine. By this, it is an illegal state which continues to occupy Palestinian land. There has been no end to this occupation to date.

An illegal state that terrorises the people of Palestine, including Gaza – that’s what Israel is.

How long would your government wait once a neighboring country start to send missiles against it? One day, one week, one month? Israel waited for 4 years and thousands of missiles. How many innocent women and children were killed in Afghanistan after “freedom fighters” crashed into the Twin Towers?

    • honestdebate says :

      ZorbaDGeek,

You’re right. I wouldn’t tolerate it. That’s why I’m against the killing of innocent civilians by Israel. Please note, Israel does not deserve the title of being a neighbouring country to Palestine. It’s an occupying force in a large part of Palestine. It is armed by the US and it bombs Palestinians and others around the region far more frequently than Hamas. And it deserves condemnation for its terrorist activities at a state level as do the like minded individuals who seek to justify Israeli actions.

The Palestinians have a right to defend their land. They allowed the Jews to migrate to their land in early 1900 and allowed them to live amongst them. The zionists planned to take their land and control their resources and eventually created a state backed by western governments, influenced by Israeli lobbyists. The zionists terrorised villagers causing the palestinians to flee in their thousands and confiscated their property.

Israel is not the patient one here.

Innocent Palestinians have been displaced and suffered for an entire generation and they have a right to liberate their lands from this oppressive rule.

  3. ZorbaDGeek says :

Israel pulled out all their settlements in the Gaza strip to enable the inhabitants to build autonomy. Money was poured into Gaza. Instead of industry – tunnels. Weapons instead of Hospitals, terrorists training instead of universities. Rockets are fired on Israeli towns any hour of day or night.

By the way there was never a Palestinian country. Since the Balfour Declaration never wanted to have a state beside Israel they want the state Israel to cease to exist.

    • honestdebate says :

Israel pulled out of the Gaza strip but continued to bulldoze farmland and palestinian property. it put the gazans under seige. they control the borders and waterways, electricity and vital necessities for the people of gaza. even by international law they were supposed to allow the free movement of people to allow the free commerce. it was israel that broke the ceasefire on 4th nov when they killed 6 palestinians.

why is israel allowed to recieve billions of dollars from the US and build one of the largest military machines in the world but gazans denied the same. if your neighbour was bullying you and had armed himself to the teeth wouldn’t you try and get weapons to try and defend yourself?

it’s all israeli propaganda and lies upon lies. now they’re using chemical warfare in one of the most densely populated areas in the world and trying to justify it because of hamas, when hamas had offerd a 10 year truce as long as israel gave it independence.

you’re either genuinely mislead or you’re part of the same gang who distort the facts to justify unjust acts.

i don’t get the point you’re trying to make about the balfour declaration, but perhaps you should note that there is no concept of a jewish state in judaism. orthodox jews are against it too and want to see it ceasing to exist. it’s an illegal occupation full stop.

  4. wasapninworld says :

It’s about regime change. End justifies the means. America and the West support Israel because Israel fulfils Western interest. Regime change is supported by the Western powers. Its that simple. You will never get out right condemnation from Western powers.
